Cancel file migration import session

Network-attached storage is a file-level storage architecture that makes stored data more accessible to networked devices.

Prerequisites

See Roles and associated permissions to determine the user roles that can perform this task.

About this task

See Understanding PowerMax File for storage systems for an overview of PowerMax File.

For the selected import session, the cancel operation results in the cessation of data transfer between the source array and PowerMax. All data import to PowerMax is removed. Production interfaces are disabled on the destination side and enabled on the source side. Cancel is disruptive for NFS and SMB clients. The destination NAS server is deleted. You can rerun the import later, but you cannot resume from where the import stops.

The cancel operation sets the state of the file import session to Cancelled and disables access to the destination NAS server. It also deletes the destination NAS server associated with the file import session.

Cancel is allowed at any state of the file import session except Completed Committed, Failed, Cancelling, and Cancelled.

NOTE: The source system is cleaned up, the destination NAS server and all imported objects including file systems are deleted. When cancel is complete, the state of the file import session is changed to Cancelled, which is a terminal state. Cancel can be forced if the source system is unresponsive. A Force Stop option is provided in the confirmation dialog box for Cancel in the case of a source system being down. Selecting this option terminates the file import session without rolling back access to the VDM on the source system. Manual intervention may be required on the source system. Also, if cancel occurs during or after the cutover operation, clients are switched back to the source system. This action may be disruptive.

Steps

  1. Select a storage system that supports PowerMax File migration.
  2. Select Data Protection > File Migration.
  3. Select File Imports.
  4. Optional: Select Force Cancel checkbox.
If the source array is unresponsive, selecting Force Cancel terminates the imports without rolling back access to the NAS Server on the source array. Manual intervention may be required on the source array.
  5. Select a session and click Cancel.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • Click Run In The Background to perform the operation in the background.
    • Expand Run In The Background, and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
